Saturday Night Live -- What the hell happened??

I don't know where Saturday Night Live went wrong ... wait yeah I do. Ever since Tina Fey, who was the head writer, and Will Ferrell left the show, it's been pretty much not funny.  Seth Myers is just not writing comedic gold.  I miss the days of Mike Myers, Adam Sandler, Dana Carvey, Chris Farley, and everyone else.  There were actually memorable characters.  I prayed to see a "Wayne's World" or "Gap Girls" sketch.  Rewind 15-20 years and those sketches were hilarious too.  Samurai anything could make me laugh: "Samurai Baker", "Samurai Delicatessen," and any other type of samurai.  Now overall the show is kind of lame.

The show isn't a complete waste of time though.  There are definitely some hilarious skits, but you have to find them.  Thankfully, Hulu and the Internet let's me find the funny skits without watching the entire show.  It's surprising too, SNL is filled with hilarious actors: Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig, and Andy Samberg, but the show just doesn't draw me in like it used to.  I remember staying up when I was younger, hoping that a "Celebrity Jeopardy" skit would come on.  Who could forget Darrell Hammond as Sean Connery taking, "The Penis Mightier for 800" when the board clearly read "The Pen is Mightier."

The one saving grace however is Andy Samberg.  He is absolutely hilarious.  "SNL Digital Shorts" are my favorite part of the show.  Lonely Island is saving SNL, and hopefully they can turn it around for the long run.

However there is some hope!!!! This week Justin Timberlake is hosting with musical guest Lady Gaga for the season finale.  Everytime Justin is on SNL gets funny again. I won't lie I'm a huge JT fan, and he is amazing on SNL.

I just had sexxxxxxxxxx, and it felt soooo good.... wait... no I didn't, but it's fun as hell to scream that song whenever possible.

  1. Oh, youthful one!!! I agree with all you have said, but, historically SNL goes through these cycles: funny as hell, painful as hell, then funny as hell.
Why watch: to get that pearl, after 45 mins of pain. Or, to see them, in real time (Reel Time??) crackup in the middle of a skit . . .which is somehow much, much funnier at 12:45 am . . .
Hang in there, funny again it shall become.

  3. When I'm right, I'm right. JT was hysterical and the SNL Digital Short did not disappoint.
