I'm taking off from blogging today. A lot of work at my internship. Expect reviews of movies like Catfish, Scott Pilgrim vs the World, and more tomorrow though.

A buddy and I discussed the awkwardness of having to drop the kids off at the pool while you're at work. It is extremely stressful; do you go while at work, where everyone will KNOW you just went, or wait it out until you get home, which will undoubtedly make your insides explode. Well, the debate went on, and we both agreed you just have to suck it up and go.
Trust me I'm not randomly talking about dropping a deuce. The conversation made me think of a great episode of How I Met Your Mother, where Marshall has the same problem at his law office.
What Wednesday Means To Me...
Wednesdays are that infamous middle of the week, where you just can't wait to get to the weekend. Two more days, that's all you need to have made it through another work week. Wednesday is the ultimate test of if you're going to make it through. Wednesdays, though, have a little more meaning for me. I can't park anywhere near my office because from 10am-2pm there is NO PARKING for street cleaning. This would normally be really annoying, but luckily I carpool with someone who just takes the car instead, and picks me up at the end of the day. So on this grand Wednesday morning (CA)/ afternoon (east coast) I present to you something that always cheers me up... Tino Martinez hitting a grand slam in game one of the 1998 World Series. Beer flying in the air as the home run reached the upper deck. An 8 year old Rayner, jumping for joy, as I was falling asleep during the game that started at 8pm. The pitch that almost struck him out. What a great at bat.
And to make matters even funnier, 13 years later, Tino hits a home run at old timers day, gut out, off David Cone.

Monday's are the Worst
It's Monday. Another week of work. Lots of traffic on the roads. What makes everything feel better? Watching one of the best 1 man A Capellas ever. Corey Vidal doing a song about Star Wars, all to famous melodies by John Williams. If you ever get the chance to see John Williams perform live, it's an amazing show. Movies play on a screen as he conducts the scores for them. It's so cool.

I have now officially reached 1,000 views, and no they aren't just from me click on my own blog a million times. People apparently actually read it, or at least click the page.. or at least my dad, sister, and other family do... well you know what, the fact of the matter is I got 1,000 views without clicking my on blog. That's pretty damn impressive for just some kid who writes how he feels about anything. The other cool thing, I got 1,000 views in just over a month. That's right. I'm awesome. Deal with it.

Good Morning LA, Good Afternoon East Coast
Last night I posted a review on Community. Then 10 minutes later, I posted an edit on my specific rating, due to San telling me I had to see the "Modern Warfare" episode first. Well, he was 100% right. This has to be one of the best episodes of a TV sitcom ever. Mocking Call of Duty, Lost, and a million other action/adventure movies, it was fantastic. Every moment was ridiculous, yet hysterical. I literally wanted to watch it again as soon it was done. I don't know how they can even make more episodes after this, it's pure GOLD.
Since I can't show you the full episode, here's a clip from the masterpiece. Enjoy.

My Bad.. I've Reconsidered...

Source: http://bbsimg.ngfiles.com/1/21287000/ngbbs4c11a9bdb4f70.jpg |
So when I did my review of The League and Community my thought was they can't compare to classic TV Comedies like Seinfeld, Friends, or even South Park. I am really wrong though. These are the new shows that people are going to remember 15, 20 years from now. So I admit my fault. The League gets a 9.1/10 and Community gets a 9.0/10. Happy? I am.
Community Review
TV Comedy Rating: 8.3/10 --> LOL Funny
Basically, Community is a great show. It's only about 20 minutes long per episode, so you can blaze through them. If you're looking for a laugh, I highly recommend the show. It's witty, quick, and entertaining, I mean what more can you ask for?
![]() |
http://www.daemonstv.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/community-nbc-season2-cast-17-550x411.jpg |
I have finally given into the Community craze, and I must say that I am not disappointed at all. With a great cast including: Joel McHale (The Soup), Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie (Mad Men), Donald Glover, Chevy Chase (you know who he is), and Ken Jeong (the crazy dude from The Hangover), Community is filled with laugh out loud comedy and memorable quotations. Each character has their unique traits, and it's their differences that make them mesh so well together.
The show follows a Spanish study group at Greendale Community College. The ages, background stories, and personalities of the group all differ, but they love each other like a family. Troy, an ex football star, (Glover) and Abed, the nerd, who constantly uses pop culture references (Pudi) have a bromance, Annie (Brie) is the over-achieving goody two-shoes, and Pierce (Chase) is old, out-dated, and racist, but every word that comes out of his mouth is absolutely hilarious.
A great thing about Community is you can watch it at any point of the season, and it would still be highly entertaining and funny. For instance, the episode, "Contemporary American Poulty" spoofs Goodfellas. Abed constantly has voice overs while his voice is on screen (like Henry Hill). Music from the movie is even used in this episode, such as when Abed destroys, kills, or sabotages something that everyone in his "family" loves to make sure they remember who is the boss.
Good Morning Everybodyyyy
Whenever I talk bout this show to people, no one remembers it (except my sister). I don't understand it at all.. maybe I really did watch way too much TV.
So honestly.. has anyone else seen this show, or am I just going nuts?

1. Friday Night Lights
FNL was a critically acclaimed series loosely based off the popular film of the same name. While the movie did have the strong jaw of Billy Bob Thornton, it was mostly shit. Most of society wrongly pegged FNL as a low-brow sports drama, however it was anything but. The series instead focused on the hardships of the fictional Texas town of Dillon and the lives of the characters residing in Dillon. We are talking serious shit here: paralysis, murder, gang violence, death, sex, abortion, etc. Plus FNL introduced the world to the curves of Minka Kelly. You’re welcome Derek Jeter, now hurl your head off a bridge and let your body follow.
Episode you must see: Season 4, The Son (No Emmy? The fuck?)
2. Party Down
What is the quickest way to get cancelled you ask? Be a sharply written comedy that actually makes you laugh out loud. Party Down had a picture perfect ensemble cast including Adam Scott, Jane Lynch, and cancelled veteran Martin Starr. Party Down focused on wannabe actors and writers in LA making ends meet in the catering business. Sadly it was pushed into premium channel obscurity on Starz, never allowing it to build much of an audience. Yet True Blood is still going. I blame girls and your stupid obsession with vampires. Guess what ladies, they don’t have a working blood stream. Edward Cullen can’t get it up. Have fun with that.
Episode you must see: Season 2, The Constance Carmel Wedding
3. Terriers
Terriers was destined to fail from inception. That’s a stupid fucking name. The name reminds me of the yappy little dogs that you would punt if it were morally acceptable. Terriers was about two small time detectives in over their heads played perfectly by the very ginger Donal Logue and Michael Raymond-James. The show had a clever script and two actors who played off each other perfectly. The show lasted only one season due to FX having a very Dan Bolen-esque case of premature cancellation.
Episode you must see: Season 1, Pilot
4. Freaks and Geeks
Our country is as good at evaluating talent as the Oakland Raiders. This show lasted one season and the cast included James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, and the television show albatross Martin Starr. It was also produced by Judd Apatow. It was voted by time to be one of the 100 greatest television shows of all time. Nice job America, you passed on Kevin Durant.
Episode you must see: Season 1, Tests and Breasts
Good Morning - I've Already got a Case of the Mondays
Of course I would forget to pack something, but instead of it being something insignificant like a t-shirt I really like, I forgot to bring my razor and beard trimmer. Luckily I shaved Thursday, so I don't look terrible and luckily I'm an intern, so maybe it won't matter as much. Until my parents and ship it to me, I'm gonna have to come up with something else. Maybe I'll go get a straight shave or something.

Anyway here's a video that a friend of mine showed me and I couldn't stop laughing. If you've ever played Pokemon, you will understand this.

The Academy is all Over the Place
![]() |
Source: http://www.firehow.com/images/stories/users/83/attend-the-oscars.jpg |
So The Academy a couple years back decided to make the number of nominees for best picture 10 rather than 5. It seemed pretty ridiculous, since there are clearly not 10 movies that are actually THAT good. Now they're changing it up again, and anywhere from 5-10 films can be nominated for Best Picture. It seems radical, but I actually like this a lot more. There shouldn't HAVE to be consistent number every year, because there aren't always the same number of "great" movies. This allows those films, which actually are deserving of Best Picture, to be nominated. I'd have to say this is a pretty good move on The Academy's part.
Read the Article Here: Best Picture Oscar Race Picks a Number, Any Number
In other Academy news, veteran stunt man, Jack Gill, is petitioning The Academy to add a Best Stunt category to the Oscars. I mean why not? That's a great idea. Those guys risk their lives and bodies just to entertain us.
Good Morning to a Glorious Hump Day
I've got one more day on the East Side before the West Side becomes my home for 2 months. I've been browsing the interwebs looking for a good video, so instead, I figured I'd show you a bunch. Probably one of the best shows ever to only last one season is Freaks and Geeks. This is early Apatow at his best with an all-star cast including, James Franco, Seth Rogen, and Jason Segel. I really don't understand how it only lasted one season, but at least YouTube kindly provides us with the entire season for our viewing pleasure. So, here's episode 1. Enjoy.

Why Dirk is Great Video (thanks Andy)
It's a beautiful day in the... what am I kidding... it's cloudy and chilly again in NJ. I bet it's just one giant party in Dallas though. If the Germans could stay up until 5am to watch Dirk win a championship, all the Dallas fans are probably still drinking their faces off. JJ Barea got stranded in Miami, however, partying with his Puerto Rican brethren.
I'm so happy LeBitch lost his throne, and still doesn't have a championship. His press conference affirmed my feelings towards him even more, when he said, that us "ordinary" people will just wake up to our real-life problems, while he'll wake up and still be Lebron enjoying what he does. What a douche.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Book)
![]() |
Source: http://images.wikia.com/harrypotter/images/d/d9/Goblet_fire_cover.jpg |
I'm not here to give you a review of a book that came out over 8 years ago though. Instead I'm gonna do a quick comparison to the movie, because in my mind the movies could have been better, and YES I would have sat there for 3+ hrs just to get more from the books.
Here's a snippet from a midterm I had last semester on Film Adaptations:
Novels are such a challenge to adapt into films, due to the nature of how books are structured, in comparison to films. According to Seger’s book, “85 % of Academy Award winning films are adaptations” (as of 1992), so clearly it is possible to successfully adapt a novel into a film. The problem lies in the actual construction of the film, and predominantly in the screenplay. For instance, a novel may have multiple subplots that accompany the main plot, but in a movie there can really only be about two subplots underlying the main plot, because it would get too confusing. Making the transition from novel to screenplay takes a lot of time and effort, but by paying attention to each detail, a hit adaptation can be made.
Let's apply this to Goblet of Fire
Radical Omissions:
- Hermione's obsession with Elf Rights- Although this isn't that important. Winky, the Elf dismissed by Barty Crouch, proved to play a pretty large role in GOF (Which we will see later)
- Ludo Bagman- He wasn't even included in the movie! Bagman throughout the book seemed to be up to something, and it was thought maybe he put Harry's name into the fire. Also, he was supposed to be a judge of the Triwizard Tournament.
- The real Barty Crouch, Jr. story- He wasn't called out by Karkaroff. He switched places (through polyjuice potion) with his mother in Azkaban (she was going to die anyway), so that he could be freed, then Barty Crouch, Sr. kept him hidden, under house arrest, until Voldemort came and freed him, and Winky played a large role in nursing him back to health. There's some more smaller things, but I don't want to rant.
- Doby- Really???? You leave out Doby? He's the one who gave Harry the Gillyweed for the 2nd task, not Neville. It's the 4th book where Harry and Doby's relationship really begins to develop, and you see how much Harry appreciates Doby. When Doby dies in the 7th book it makes sense why Harry is so upset. The movie didn't capture that as well.
- The full Rita Skeeter story- I can't REALLY complain. But this took away from the subplot of all the ridiculous stories that were published in Witch Weekly and The Daily Prophet, such as the love triangle with Krum, Harry, and Hermione, and the Hagrid being half giant story. A really nice touch for the books, but not necessary for the movie.
- The entire beginning- One thing that all the Harry Potter books have in common, is that every book starts out with Harry at Private Drive. The GOF movie didn't do this. There's some pretty funny scenes too, such as Mr. Weasley and the boys trying to get through the fireplace to pick up Harry, but Vernon has it blocked up or Dudley being on a strict diet including Grape Fruit.
- Fred an George's loan- Minor detail, but Fred and George get the money to start their joke shop from Harry's winnings for the Triwizard Tournament, they don't just drop out of school out of no where.
- Sirus' Role- They downplayed him so much in the movie. They didn't include all of the letters and secret meetings. Probably for time purposes.
- Peeves- He apparently doesn't exist in HP movie world.
There's a few more little things, but they're not really worth mentioning. The GOF is definitely one of the better HP movies. They took a lot of creative liberties for an adaptation, but as a big HP fan, it was kind of hard to swallow how different it was. As a whole the movie was really entertaining, so I can't complain there, but this is why the 7th movie has been my favorite so far, because it's the closest to the books. Bottom line is don't get your hopes up when you go to see your favorite books turned into movies. There's a good chance it'll be a great movie, but there's also a decent chance that it won't be chapter for chapter the same, it's just impossible to do that.
Good Morining -- IT IS HOT
Since it's extremely hot today. I thought I'd relive a classic episode of Hey Arnold! The episode is called "Heat," and the city is under a giant heat wave. No matter what Arnold does he just can't get away from the uncomfortable weather. This episode is filled with great moments.

Mornin' everybody. Random thought... Pretty much everybody hates commercials, especially on shows like American Idol that has what seems like 10 minutes of commercials in between each segment. But there's always a few commercials that are absolutely hysterical, and you love them every time they come on, such as Geico's "Little Piggy Cries Home" commercial. Well there's one that's pretty simple that I think is genious: The Samsung Infuse 4G for AT&T --> so clear this woman thinks the spider is real.. absolutely hilarious..

X-Men: First Class -- The Beginning of a Superior Race
Rating: 8/10 --> Actually worth the $10 and some popcorn
![]() |
Source: http://www.cinemablend.com/images/news/24262/New_Men_First_Class_Poster_Pushes_The_Limits_7th_Grade_Photoshop_Skills_1303222043.jpg |
This summer is filled with blockbusters I want to see. This summer is filled with comic book movies that I want to see. This summer started with Thor, which was a fantastic piece of entertainment, and so I had pretty high expectations for X-Men: First Class.
Here’s the thing, I know a lot about X-Men. I don’t know as much as one of my buddies who has read over 20 years worth of X-Men comics from the beginning, but it’s definitely enough that I can pick out a lot of wrong things with any of the movies. I could provide you with a laundry list of things that are wrong with First Class, but I’m not gonna do that. I’m here to tell you why it is worth the $10 to go see X-Men: First Class.
So the basic story for those of you who aren’t a geek like me: Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr (Magneto) start a school for gifted youngsters (mutants), and must aid the US in preventing WWIII and the Cuban Missile Crisis. The purpose of the movie: to provide an origin for Professor X and Magneto, and how the team came to be.
If X-Men is any indication of how Green Lantern and Captain American: The First Avenger will be, then this summer will be filled with kick-ass, action packed, entertaining comic book movies. Director Matthew Vaughn did a great job with a large cast of actors, a lot of who are much younger and inexperienced. He made great choices in many aspects of the film. For instance, the fight sequences were fantastic. Every now and then a fight scene can move too quickly, making it hard to follow and somewhat nauseating, especially in super hero movies with a lot of CG (*cough*Spider-Man*cough). Vaughn didn’t do that though. His fight scenes kept you on the edge of your sheet, incorporating a nice amount of mutant powers and physical fighting.
The writing was good. The story started off extremely strong, but in the middle it seemed rushed a little bit. Great job with tying themes together, such as Xavier talking to Hank McCoy about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, who then pulls a Dr. Jekyll and turns himself into Beast. Overall it got the job done, with some cliché lines here and there (but that’s comic books for ya).
One thing that cannot go without mention is the amazing casting for this movie. James McAvoy (Professor X) and Micahel Fassbender (Magneto) did an outstanding job. They played their individual roles convincingly, and had great chemistry together. One really touching moment is when Xavier tries to help Erik move a gigantic satellite, and in order to do so Xavier goes into Erik’s memories and pulls one of him and his mother. Xavier tells Erik that, “True focus lies between rage and serenity,” and BOOM, Erik moves the entire satellite. It was a really touching moment, and highlighted the actors’ great performance.
The other actors chosen in X-Men were surprisingly exceptional. The most memorable of the supporting cast was Jennifer Lawrence. She’s the same age as me (21 in August) and absolutely gorgeous. It always gets me when I see people my age acting in movies, winning Olympic golds, and etc… I could be doing that… Anyway not only was she strikingly beautiful, but she played a young Mystique very well. She did an awesome job of providing an outlet for the ideals of Xavier and Magneto, and how they differed. She has a bright future and I expect we’ll be hearing a lot about her in years to come.
Kevin Bacon. Enough said. Bacon was the bad guy, Sebastian Shaw, and it worked really well. His first time on camera he’s speaking German, and you’re thinking, “who is that I know that guy?” then you realize it’s Kevin Bacon! I was pleasantly surprised with his role.
The other supporting X-Men: Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Lucas Till (Havok), and Caleb Landry Jones (Banshee) played the characters really well.
January Jones (Emma Frost) on the other hand… wow… she absolutely sucked. I love Mad Men, but she always annoys me on the show, and I figured it was just her character Betty’s personality. I was wrong; she’s just a terrible actress. She is a total smokeshow, but cannot act for her life.
Usually in these big budget movies cinematography is really nothing special. Although, X-Men won’t win the Oscar for best cinematography, I did notice that Vaughn and his cinematographer took certain opportunities to use nicely composed shots (with rack focus). These were typically when Xavier and Magneto were having intimate conversations about human-mutant relations, and I appreciated the somewhat artsy touch to these few shots.
Bottom line: This movie was extremely entertaining. You don’t need to know anything about X-Men There are plenty of great special fx, fighting, things blowing up, attractive women (and men for the female persuasion), good writing, and great acting, except January Jones. Go see this movie, you won’t be disappointed… unless you don’t have a soul… or you just are a complete jerk… to go see it.

If you've ever watched Paula Deen's show, you know she uses a ridiculous amount of butter, cream, and margarine. It's pretty disgusting, and Funny or Die hit it on the nail with her intervention.
